Asta Caplan

Visual Artist, MFA/ KPJAYI Level 2 Authorized Ashtanga yoga teacher,  www.astacaplan.com  

Asta was born and grew up in a family of artists in Finland. She first trained in classical ballet and other dance disciplines in Finnish National Ballet School and after her graduation she worked as a professional dancer in the Finnish National Ballet and Pomeranian state theatre in Germany.  

From dance Asta moved on to study fine arts in Finnish Academy of fine arts, graduating in 2011 with MFA in painting and printmaking. She’s been working as an artist and exhibiting works internationally since then. Her works have been shown and sold in USA, China, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy, Japan and Finland. She currently lives and works in Munich as a visual artist as well as as a yoga teacher.

Side by side with her other careers, Asta has been practicing Ashtanga yoga since 1998, receiving level 2 authorization to teach traditional Ashtanga yoga from Sharath Jois, director of Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India, in 2012. After moving to Germany in 2014 she has been teaching daily, traditional Ashtanga yoga class; first in Berlin and then from 2017 in Munich.

Asta has with her training as a dancer and her experience in yoga, a deep interest in the capacity of movement of the human body. Her anatomical illustrations have been published previously in books on flexibly, by Marja Putkisto and study of movement by Jarmo Ahonen.

When not occupied with creating artworks or yoga – which she considers to be a practice of good life – Asta enjoys traveling and seeing wildlife. When home she explores cultures of the world by cooking her way around the globe in her home kitchen.
