8 Further Indications
Treatment Intervals
■ Initially twice weekly with daily blood pressure measurements
■ Blood pressure within the normal range: treatment intervals can be extended to once
weekly; with consistently normal readings twice monthly
■ Consistently normal readings for over 2 months: no further treatments necessary
■ Continuous reduction of blood pressure but without reaching normal values: 1-2 treat-
ments per month accompanied by conventional therapy (medication)
Treatment Course and Prognosis
This depends on the duration and severity of the disorder as well as existing risk factors:
■
Mild hypertension:
with patient compliance (weight loss, stress reduction) approxi-
mately 6 months until symptoms disappear
■
Moderate to severe hypertension:
if there is no reduction in blood pressure within 3
months, the combination with Chinese herbal medicine (and possibly body acupunc-
ture) or conventional therapy will be necessary
• Acupuncture has a harmonising and energetically balancing effect and therefore also
supports the reduction of risk factors (e.g. alcohol, stress).
8.1.2 Coronary Heart Disease
Description
■ Impaired myocardial circulation, generally caused by degenerative changes (obstruc-
tion or stenosis) of the coronary vessels
■ Recurrent feelings of pressure or pain in the chest, worse with exertion, e.g. angina
pectoris (
›
8.1.3); may also be completely asymptomatic

A thorough conventional investigation is necessary for assessing coronary stenoses and as-
sociated risks. Unstable angina pectoris (› 8.1.3) in the context of coronary heart disease is
an absolute indication for admission to hospital.
Treatment Intervals
■ With pain (
›
8.1.3, angina pectoris): twice weekly
■ Following heart surgery: 2–3 times weekly in addition to conventional therapy
