8.7.1 Macular Degeneration
Description
■ Progressive loss of sight
■ Generally affects both eyes
■ Forms: dry form with atrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium, better prognosis; wet
form with serous detachment of the retina from the pigment epithelium (more severe
loss of visual acuity). Either form can transform into the other.
