Jing Bie
(Divergent Channels)
Functions of the Jingbie
- divert the Xieqi from the organs
- maintain the internal rhythm of the Five Elements
- connect the organs with the head
- participate in the physiology of the head
Pathology
The
Jingbie
pathology often involves residual patho-
genic factors (RPF) manifesting as chronic and re-
curring conditions in the form of
Bi
Impediment or
Wei
Wilting syndromes with underlying Blood and
Yin Xu
Vacuity/ deficiency and the presence of Heat.
This Heat is due to the
Wei Qi
’s attempt at neutralis-
ing the pathogenic Wind, Cold or Damp. The Heat
ultimately consumes the five layers, skin, sinews, flesh,
vessels and bones, manifesting as difficulty in moving
or lifting the limbs. In this manner Heat starts harming
the body, as observed in cases of autoimmune diseases
such as in multiple sclerosis.
Wei Qi
transforms in to
Heat
depletes the Yin
and the
Jing
(Kidney Yang) (Reaction to PF) (autoimmunity)
Heat can also combine with the fluids or Dampness
into non
-
substantial Phlegm that is retained and ob-
structs various organs as seen in “Phlegm obstructing
the Heart orifices”, or the Gallbladder with gallstones,
the Kidney with urinary stones and cysts –
Shan-
Jia
Hernia and masses, or in the joints leading to
deformation and calcifications.
Because, the Pathogenic factor is trapped by the den-
sity of the
Jing
level in the large articulations, there
are periods of latency. As the
Jing
declines through
ageing or other attacks of EPF, the symptoms manifest
more frequently. The appearance of organic,
Zang-
Fu
, manifestations often imply that the threshold of
latency is affected. Master Yuen recommends to begin
the treatment with the GB
Jingbie
, which is the bridge
in treating auto-immune diseases affecting the organs.
In general the
Jingbie
pathology tends to manifest in
the
Fu
Bowels, for example as Damp-Heat in the
intestines or irritable bowel syndrome, prior to the
Zang
Viscera (see “Chronic degenerative diseases”
at the end of the chapter)
To recapitulate
- Jingbie all start at major joints, except for the TW; they
all connect with their respective Zang-Fu and the cou-
pled channels, go through theHeart area, and joinwith
the head, the sea of marrow.
- The pathogenic factor is diverted by the Jingbie to be
trappedby the densest layer, the bones (related to Jing):
“Latency phase”
- The internalisedpathogenic factor transforms intoHeat
producing “Latent Heat phase”
- The Heat exhausts the Yin: Jing–Blood–Fluids causing
dryness of the eyes, mouth and lips
- The body counteracts by producing Dampness
- The pathogenic factor comes out of latency and mani-
fests as Damp-Heat, considered the root of all degen-
erative diseases. Manifesting first in the Fu
Bowels
as Lin
Strangury syndrome (cystitis, prostatitis), dis-
charge or diarrhoea, gastritis or colitis. Then the pathol-
ogywill affect the Zang
Viscera: pancreatitis, nephritis
or pneumonia.
In the case of cancer, which is considered a
Jing
level
pathology (genetic damage to the DNA), when the
cancer becomes symptomatic withmetastasis, it is due
to the fact that the Heat has overcome the Dampness,
that is the Dampness cannot contain the pathogenic
Heat anymore. The treatment calls for boosting the
genetic essence in order to boost immunity.
Suwen (Chapter 63) also underlines the convergence
at the forehead above the left ear and that if affected
will lead to
Shen
Spirit disturbance in the formof loss
of consciousness and neuropathy with paralysis, with
symptoms of numbness, immobility, or even Wind-
stroke and seizures.
Diagnosis
Chronic intermittent or cyclic diseases, often combin-
ing osteo-articular symptoms of proximal joints, chest
and throat and head symptoms. Additionally:
